How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Really Take?

Most full kitchen remodels run four to eight weeks of on-site work — but the calendar time is usually longer, because cabinets and countertops have lead times. Here's roughly how it breaks down.

Before anything is torn out

The longest 'wait' is often ordering. Custom or semi-custom cabinets can take several weeks to arrive, and countertops are templated only after cabinets are installed. We order early and schedule demo for when the materials are close, so your kitchen isn't sitting gutted while we wait on a truck.

A typical on-site sequence

• Week 1 — Demolition, then rough plumbing and electrical for any layout changes.
• Week 2 — Drywall, patching, and paint prep; flooring underlayment.
• Week 3 — Cabinet installation and countertop templating.
• Week 4 — Countertops, backsplash tile, sink and faucet, appliances.
• Week 5 — Lighting, hardware, punch list, and the final walk-through.

How to survive it

Set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in the house — microwave, coffee maker, and a folding table go a long way. Plan for the sink to be out for a stretch. And build a little buffer into your expectations: good remodels occasionally uncover surprises behind the walls, and it's better to fix them right than to rush.
